Fruita Bookcliffs

Description:
The Fruita Bookcliffs proposed NCA includes roaded lands around the Bookcliffs and an unofficial roadless area, behind the cliffs.
The land around the cliffs is the extremely popular “18 Road” recreation area, now threatened by oil and gas development. The BLM recently completed a travel management plan for this area and the CPP proposal is intended to complement and not alter that plan.
Further north and east, Hunter Canyon has been proposed as a Wilderness area. This area is pristine and deserves protection. Because it is immediately adjacent to a very popular bicycling area, the CPP instead proposes a Protection Area for Hunter Canyon.
